Some Common Pet Injuries and Accidents to Expect

Because your cats and dogs are vulnerable to injuries and illnesses, you need to be alert when something is not right with your furry friend. Thus, it pays to be aware of these usual health problems that your animal will encounter along the way.

1. Laceration/Bites

This particular injury may be the result of catfights, dogfights, or an attack from a possum, raccoon, or other wild animals. Besides bites, lacerations on a dog or cat's pads is another kind of wound you have to watch out for.

2. Ingesting Foreign Objects

Since pets will try to chew anything they can when they are bored, do not be surprised that in your next visit to a veterinarian, you will discover rocks, toys, hair, etc. stuck inside their stomachs after an x-ray examination. So, to prevent them from ingesting something that will be detrimental to their health, close supervision should be done.

3. Insect Bites and Stings

Because it is difficult to predict what insects are hiding inside your residence, chances are that your feline or canine will be stung or bitten by bees, wasps, and even scorpions in the near future. And since veterinary care is direly needed in such circumstances, have your pet's physician's clinic phone number handy at all times.

4. Chemical Overdose

Human medications and other household chemicals are not good for your furry companion so, you need to store such items away from your pug's reach. In most cases, a veterinarian can provide administer the right drugs for your pet if they are sick.

By having a basic knowledge of the common health problems that your canine or feline might have, it would be easier for you to know what first-aid procedure would be necessary when the right moment comes.

Aside from this skill, it also makes sense to train yourself on how to provide immediate care for other members of your household in times of emergencies. Speaking of which, enrol for any of our life-saving courses through our domain!
