Brisbane Cycling Festival 2019

Since March 28th, ASSIST Medics have been busy providing professional medical coverage at cycling events throughout South East Queensland for the inaugural Brisbane Cycling Festival. The festival boasted professional, amateur and junior participation events at the celebrated Anna Meares Velodrome and other venues in the region, finishing with Tour de Brisbane on April 14th.

The highly acclaimed Anna Meares Velodrome, which was purposely built for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, became host to hundreds of riders from all around the world. These events saw great camaraderie, hearty competition, and awe-inspiring world champion riders producing a highly energetic atmosphere spreading to spectators and staff alike.  ASSIST Medics was on hand daily to supply quality medical coverage to athletes, spectators and staff.

The 110km UCI Gran Fondo World Series held during the inaugural not-for-profit Tour de Brisbane, offered cyclists that placed in the top 25% , an opportunity to represent their nation at the World Championships in Poland! For those non-competitive cyclists, Amy’s Ride fundraiser offered two distanced 110km and 45km circuits available to anyone and everyone from 12 years of age onwards.

With more than 2500 cyclists of all ages and abilities participated this day, Queensland Police Service professionally managed road closures. Therefore, all participants were able to ride through Brisbane city, across the river, over Mt Coo-tha along fully closed roads on this iconic city-based course. ASSIST Medics delivered professional medical coverage with highly skilled, industry qualified staff closely following the cycle convoys on medically equipped motorbikes, cars and static medics covered various locations, including the start and finish line. Our team has been incredibly excited to experience this event first hand.

ASSIST Medics will be extremely busy over the coming months attending the Gold Coast Running Festival, Cairns Marathon Festival, Runaway Noosa Marathon, as well as many other events around the region.
