SISSS00118 Sports Trainer Level 1 (Skill Set)

Course Outcomes:
- Learners who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded a skill set statement of attainment.
- Skill set includes the following units of competency: HLTAID011 Provide first aid, SISSSCO015 Prepare participants for sport competition and SISSSPT001 Implement sport injury prevention and management strategies
- HLTAID011 Provide first aid is reccommened to be renewed every 3 years.
- SISSS000118 Sports Trainer Level 1 skill set can be used to gain credit towards Sports Coaching Certificate III (SIS30521) and IV (SIS40321). Sports Coaching Certificate III and IV are part of the SIS Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training package.
- Legal Note: Specific licensing /regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.
Course Delivery:
Course Duration: The total course duration is approximately 12 hours. This includes 4 hours (estimated) online e-learning and knowledge assessments, followed by 8 hours face to face knowledge learning, knowledge assessment and practical assessment with the trainer asessor.
Delivery Style: Blended delivery consists of online self paced e-learning and knowledge assessments for HLTAID011 Provide first aid, followed by a face to face knowledge and practical assessment session for SISSSS00118 Sports Trainer Level 1 in our training centre.
Location: Assist Training Centre - 22 Premier Cct Warana (Sunshine Coast) or onsite.

Course Assessment:
- Scenario-based assessments
- Knowledge assessments consisting of multiple choice, multi-choice, matching and order the steps questions
- Perform CPR on adult manikin placed on the floor, including using an AED and putting into recovery position
- Perform CPR on an infant manikin placed on a firm surface
- Respond to realistic in-depth, scenarios and simulations to assess first aid skills and knowledge
- Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
- Manage a casualty with asthma
- Manage a choking casualty
- Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding, minor wound cleaning and dressing
- Manage a casualty with a fracture, dislocation, sprain or strains, using appropriate immobilisation techniques
- Manage a casualty with envenomation, using pressure immobilisation
- Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
- Manage a casualty with shock
- Complete a first aid incident report form based on a simulated first aid scenario
- Prepare one participant for competition in a specific sport
- Implement sport injury prevention and management strategies including: warm up, cool down
- Applying tape to thumb, ankle, finger, elbow, shoulder, knee and Achilles tendon
- Assessing one injured participant and one ill participant using DRSABCD, STOP AND TOTAPS
- Managing one participant with a sport-specific injury or illness
- Managing one participant with a medical condition
