ASSIST First Aid are excited to be offering Sports Trainer Level 1 course at the Sleeman Sports Complex and in Buddina on the Sunshine Coast in January and February 2023.

What Is Sport Trainer Level 1?

Sports Trainer Level 1 introduces the basic principles of sports medicine and provides the basic knowledge and skills needed for sports first aid or to be a sports trainer.

It is required by many sports to work or volunteer with them. For example AFL and NRL.

Who is the Sports Trainer Level 1 For?

It is suitable for anyone working as (or wanting to work as) a Sports Trainer / first aider for sports – whether they are paid or voluntary. Sports clubs can save money by training first aiders / sports trainers for training or matches. It suits;

  • Anyone working or volunteering as a Sports Trainer
  • Sporting clubs who need Sports Trainers or first aid responders at training, matches or carnivals
  • Schools and Universities who use Sports Trainers or first aider for sports
  • Parents of sporty kids keen to help them avoid and manage injury

What Does the Course Cover?

The course includes;

  • Implementing Sport Injury Prevention & Management Strategies (SISSSPT001)
  • Preparing Participants for Sport Competition (SISSSCO15)
  • Managing Asthma & Medical Conditions
  • Sports Taping; Contraindications, Fingers, Thumbs, Achilles Tendons, Ankles, Elbows, Knees, Shoulders

What are the Study Options?

There are 2 delivery options;

Face to Face Course

  • 1 day of face to face theory & practical training & assessment
  • Pre-course workbook (completed before the face to face training)
  • Suits new students or anyone who prefers in-person learning

Blended Course

  • eLearning – 5 to 7 hours (including pre-course workbook)
  • 2 hours of face to face practical training & assessment
  • Suits students who have completed Sports Trainer Level 1 before or have experience in Sports First Aid

Are there any Prerequisites?

Anyone can undertake the Sports Trainer Level 1 Course. The only prerequisite is that you have your First Aid & CPR. But don’t worry if you don’t have it or it has lapsed. With ASSIST First Aid you can combine a First Aid & CPR with your Sports Trainer Level 1 course and receive a discount on your First Aid / CPR.

  • Current First Aid & CPR Certificate is required
  • First Aid & CPR can be done with Sports Trainer course. This is delivered as a blended course (eLearning + face to face practical) with the practical directly before most of the Sports Trainer courses.

    • Sports Trainer – Face to Face: 9am – 5pm
    • Sports Trainer – Blended workshop – 9am – 11am
    • First Aid & CPR (for students without current certificate) – Blended learning face to face workshop: 8am – 9am
  • Saturday 25 February
    • Sports Trainer – Face to Face: 9am – 5pm
    • Sports Trainer – Blended workshop: 9am – 11am
    • First Aid & CPR (for students without current certificate) – Blended learning face to face workshop: 8am – 9am

    • Sports Trainer – Blended learning face to face workshop: 6.30pm – 8.30pm
    • First Aid & CPR (for students without current certificate) – Blended learning face to face workshop: 4.45pm – 6.15pm
  • Saturday 11 February
    • Sports Trainer – Face to Face: 9am – 5pm

Is this a Nationally Recognised Course?

Students who complete the course will receive a Nationally Recognised Certificate of Attainment.
The National Course code is Sports Trainer Level 1 – SISSS00118

What does the Sports Trainer Level 1 Cost?

  • Sports Trainer – Face to Face: $275 –
  • Sports Trainer – Blended workshop: $175 –
  • First Aid & CPR: $100 – (when completed with Sports Trainer)
